We visited two lighthouses on our visit - the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and the Ocracoke Lighthouse.

The Ocracoke Lighthouse was finished in 1823 and is 75 feet tall. Unfortunately, the public are not allowed to climb the lighthouse, so the pictures below were the the closest I could get to it.

One of the things I've always wanted to do was visit the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. I finally got my chance! At 208 feet tall, it has 268 steps, and I climbed them all (much to the dismay of my thighs) and took the following pictures.

Top - This is taken from the top of the Hatteras Lighthouse, and you can see the path the Lighthouse took when it was moved in 1999. Originally, the Lighthouse stood 1500 feet from the ocean, but when it was moved, it was only 120 feet away.

Top - This is the view looking down the sprial staircase inside the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
